The Bio of Artist Jack Brendlinger
The artist is a fifth generation Coloradan who was born in Denver and graduated from the University of Colorado with a BS in Marketing. He studied art (sort of) by sneaking into art classes with his roomate, Robert Redford, in Paris in the mid 50's.
He moved to Aspen in 1964 and with his wife, Marsha, built and operated the 36 room Applejack Inn. They sold the lodge in 1975 and Jack built a studio to pursue his growing interest in Sculpture. From 1976 to 1986 he was a marketing and public relations executive with the Aspen Skiing Company.
In 1986 he began a 16 year career as a movie, television and radio production and programming executive with Freewheelin' Films and was president of Echo Radio Productions and New Visions Syndication. He is listed in the "Who's Who of the Entertainment World" and "Who's Who of the Twentieth Century".
Thoughout his years in the business world he continued to pursue his art avocation, often choosing his sculpture and painting subjects from the films he was producing. His work is mostly figurative, both human and animal.
He has had several one man shows and has participated in numerous art exhibitions and he prefers to market his work directly to the collectors.
He was commissioned by the city of Aspen to complete a life-sized bust of Thomas Sardy, an Aspen civic leader and founder of the Aspen airport. The piece is now on permanent display in the Aspen Airport terminal.
In 1997 he began experimenting in other art mediums and is now painting in watercolors and acrylics. His painting and sculpture subjects are mostly skiing, hunting, fishing and golf... four of his most consumate passions.
He, most recently, has been awarded several commissions in both painting and sculpture.
Artist Statement of Jack Brendlinger
I have had the intrinsic interest in art ever since my aunt bought me a book on how to draw cartoons when I was seven and confined, for three months, in a pneumonia canvas tent in a Denver hospital. Now in my late eighties I have had the most wonderful experience in creating all kinds of art, watercolors, acrylic painting, drawings, murals, ceramics and, of course, my main love… sculpture.
I was a very active individual full of all the energies of life and my sculptures are a direct reflection of the excitement and pleasures of those robust activities.
